Michael Caine's film school
Michael Caine film school
- Eyes are the most important thing when it comes to screen acting.
- Have to follow the mark on the floor to ensure the camera is recording you best.
- Blonde eyelashes = mascara (make the eyes more prominent as they are powerful)
- If you're going to say a line step backwards
- Always watch one eye and don't change it - Don't blink
- Ignore the camera and act as though it doesn't exist
- Always react and listen
- If people believe you're rehearsing content then you aren't acting good enough - should be natural
- 'You have no enemies everyone is on your side'
- Concertation is key
- Everything needs to be consistent
- Never smoke or fiddle
- Relaxation is important
- Always cheat and steal from fellow actors approaches to scenes - they had to do the same for their role
- 'if the director is good he will tell you what you're like'
- When breaking the 4th wall act as though you're speaking to a friend
- When you have a performance, rehearse the night prior with props and exactly how you will the day off.
Overall, I felt his advice was detailed and extremely useful. It gifted me with new approaches to acting and has helped me navigate how I act in scenes in the future.
